Product & Experience

Product Design

Product design for complex tasks, flows and interface decisions.

For web apps, platforms and internal tools. The work begins with the task and continues through product behavior, interface states and an engineering-ready system.

When it is needed

A screen is rarely the whole problem.

Teams often arrive with a screen request, but the friction usually sits across the task: a missing decision, an unclear state or a flow that asks people to understand the system before they can finish the job.

The task, product behavior and constraints are made explicit before the interface is resolved.

Direction note: Write the task in the user’s language before mapping the flow.

Direction note: Prototype the point where the product asks someone to decide.

Direction note: A component needs a behavior, a state and a reason to exist.

Approach

How product decisions take shape

  1. Define the task

Clarify who is doing what, the constraints around the task and how the product should respond.

  2. Map the behavior

Work through flows, states and information relationships before committing to visual detail.

  3. Test the difficult part

Prototype the interaction with the most uncertainty and use what is learned to revise the flow.

  4. Make it buildable

Resolve the interface, component states and annotated handoff, then review the implementation.

Scope

From task to engineering handoff

  • Task and flow definition
  • Wireframes and interactive prototypes
  • Interface design and component states
  • Annotated engineering handoff and design QA

Bring the brief. Leave with a direction.
